Kym Jordan is PMP certified and currently serves as the Director of Global Strategic Partnerships and Special Events at Special Olympics International. But this is just the tip of the iceberg as her experience demonstrates a vast understanding in partnership management, project management, brand building, and creative project solutions across various industries.
Most recently at Special Olympics International (SOI), her thoughtful approach and leadership has resulted in multiple growth opportunities. Kym began her career at SOI as a critical member of the management team for large scale national events – one of which was the single largest fundraising event in Special Olympics history, spanning 46 days, across 50 US states, with over 20,000 participants and raising over $4.3MM. As part of the management team for this project, she was responsible for ensuring the fundraising system met crucial project milestones to guarantee the event launched on time and within budget. She proactively managed important and time-sensitive assignments, collaborated with team members to develop innovative solutions to critical problems and balance stakeholder expectations with those of the company.
In tandem to this role, Kym was tasked with identifying new fundraising opportunities in an oversaturated domestic market. After extensive research, she led her team of two to launch a national collegiate event series that has been highlighted on ESPN College Game Day. This platform opened new revenue streams, secured new corporate partners, and dramatically expanded participation and volunteering in the Special Olympics College Clubs program.
Maintaining these projects was a result of building and keeping effective relationships with all Special Olympics Programs (state chapters), as well as with third party vendors, corporate partners, and individuals. In order to be successful with each new project, she was organized, detail-oriented, and able to self-motivate.
Through her leadership and successful implementation of these responsibilities, Kym moved into a business development and relationship management role. In this position, she is responsible for developing programs, proposals, grants, contracts, and pricing to secure new partners and optimize the performance of high-value existing accounts. A few of her notable accounts include: Finish Line, Bank of America, Microsoft, T-Mobile, AT&T, KPMG, Nickelodeon, Tommy Hilfiger, and Facebook/Oculus.
Previously at the USO, she spearheaded the expansion of a new peer to peer fundraising program called TEAM USO. After identifying current fundraising trends, she built a three year strategic plan that gave individuals, community partners, USO centers, and corporations an effective, low-cost platform to fundraise and secure volunteers for the USO’s mission. In order to support the programs aggressive growth goals, she planned and activated a multi-channel strategy, including a grassroots marketing plan; corporate and alumni registration events and cultivation; and online marketing methods.
Before her time at the USO, she spent two years shaping the Audi Best Buddies Challenge DC. During her tenure, she initiated diverse marketing campaigns that led to higher market visibility. Her extensive experience in endurance racing helped in designing and crafting special events that were used for networking and retaining key riders from year to year.
In addition to this experience, she has honed her extensive customer service skills through work in retail and learned to forecast and manage revenue/expense budgets through work as an assistant controller.
